I find the fact that they are siblings very odd because Michael is so far out there, beyond the beyond, such that it isn't very believable that Laurie would be his sister. But as my post on twine fiction noted, this earlier period demonized mental illness to such an extreme extent that the fact that Michael is 'insane' is reason enough for everything he does. I think to some degree horror writers have moved past these tropes, including the final girl. Our worries are certainly bigger these days than which suburban babysitter has premarital sex, and horror has shifted to reflect that.LC Douglasshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04250961297714038453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2905155363976375938.post-14810150371140681132013-10-22T21:17:11.189-04:002013-10-22T21:17:11.189-04:00Great post on the film and its connection to the d...Great post on the film and its connection to the darker Halloween themes. Sometimes, I have to tell people to just watch the first film without thinking of Michael and Laurie as siblings. It is a hell of a lot creepier when you think of him choosing her "just because" she happened to go up to his old house on Halloween.Wings1295https://www.blogger.com/profile/08045644215235749353noreply@blogger.com
