Coronavirus Fragments 14: Germany's Resistance2020 Party

The coronavirus holds up a mirror to every society. In Germany, COVID19 has prompted a physician, Dr. Bodo Schiffmann, to establish a new anti-pandemic-lockdown political party: Widerstand 2020, or Resistance 2020.

Not everyone was thrilled by this, as the new party strongly contests the mainstream view of the pandemic and the lockdowns. Widerstand2020 sympathizers, who are not necessarily party members, but who are circulating information about the party, sell merchandise to crowdfund themselves (as below). Their logos give an idea of the political grassroots people who are supporting this initiative; some of their t-shirts are horrifically racist, OTT, and strongly anti-refugee and anti-immigration. Thus, this party is drawing from the AfD base - and beyond. It is also attracting supporters from the left, such as Dresden trauma therapist Gopal Norbert Klein. On 30 April 2020, Klein implored supporters of democratic freedom to flood German social media with information about the new party.

To be clear, however, the Widerstand2020 party, according to Schiffmann, is neither left nor right, but is essentially red-pilled about mainstream abuses of power. The party was founded to take a stand against the "new feudalism" of the corona crisis. Schiffmann's office is oddly decked with a model of Neuschwanstein, although I can't tell if that means anything.

The Widerstand2020 party has been established when there are very serious breaches of parliamentary processes. On 29 April 2020, the police entered the diet, or state parliament, of Baden-Württemberg to intimidate a dissenting and loud MP. The microphone was turned off several times when independent MP, Dr. Heinrich Fiechtner (representative for Göppingen), began insulting the entire parliament for using orders of business to stifle his complaints about coronavirus infringements of citizens' freedom. Fiechtner taped the subsequent exchange with police with his bodycam and published it on Facebook. A sympathetic Telegram group, Medienkritik für staatliche Transparenz (here) of over 4,000 members, is discussing the incident, amid calls for freedom of economic opinion.

An associated legal action has just been filed in Mainz. The complaint comes from Rubikon publisher, Jens Wernicke, against the government of the Rheinland-Palatinate for its emergency measures:

"The nearly 300-page legal document is full of conclusive arguments as to why the fundamental rights violations by the Corona regime are no longer acceptable."

The new party seeks to block emerging techno-fascism and is calling for MP candidates to volunteer. It is organizing rallies and establishing state-level groups. You can see more of its evolving platform, here and here.

First of all, thank you for your great commitment.

With regard to the founding of national associations, we are currently developing a concept that allows us all to participate actively in the creation of the relevant national statutes. We will share more detailed information.

Every national association is of course based on our principles in its origins.

Extract from our statutes:

§ 1-Name, headquarters and field of activity

(1) The Party Resistance 1 Germany (Resistance 1) is a party within the meaning of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Party Act. It unites people without distinction of nationality, status, origin, ethnic affiliation, gender, sexual orientation and confession who want to contribute to the development of a democratic rule of law and a modern freedom of society, shaped by the spirit of social justice. Totalitarian, dictatorial and fascist aspirations of any kind, the party strongly rejects resistance The most important fundamental rights for the people of society are freedom rights. These are superior to all other fundamental rights. A liberal society can only be imaginable if power and power structures are limited and controlled and a loving, peaceful relationship with each other is maintained, in which the human being and humanity of each other are always respected. The Resistance Party stands for mindfulness, attention, responsibility in the sense of own and foreign responsibility, as well as a completely new overall structure in which all people are allowed to participate in decisions on an equal footing."

German developers have just released an open source app, Democracy. Two years in the making, it is recommended by the Widerstand2020 party. It allows the public to scrutinize politicians and law-making, to counter undue lobbyist influence, and to follow and participate in debate. It is free to download and allows citizens to track exactly how policies are developed.
