The post considers how authoritarianism and conformity set the price of freedom when people feel threatened. The psychological example is the Kitakyushu Confinement case. In this little known and terrifying Japanese instance of mass mind control, a psychopathic serial killer manipulated the inhabitants of an apartment building to murder each other over the course of a decade.
The case was recently discussed, based on translated Japanese sources, on Shaun Attwood's Youtube channel and on another channel, Lazy Masquerade (below).
